After her fun presentation, she signed books for students who had brought their books from home or pre-ordered them from Little Shop of Stories. Students got to meet her and find out what a fun person she is in person! Before she left, she couldn't resist leaving a little message for our 5th grade author, Tony DiTerlizzi (see the slideshow above). We are so lucky to get to have authors like Jenni Holm come to F.AVE. Thanks to the Decatur Education Foundation for bringing her to us. Some of us are going to get to see her tomorrow too at the Decatur Book Festival!
What a wonderful morning we had here at F.AVE! Jennifer Holm, author of Babymouse, Squish, and Turtle in Paradise (to name a few) was here to talk to 4th grade! Her newest book The Fourteenth Goldfish is about a scientist who discovers a jellyfish that can make itself young again. He uses the jellyfish to make a youth serum, and craziness ensues! When I read the first few chapters to each class, students were giggling and then left stunned when we left off at the end of the 3rd chapter. We loved hearing Ms. Holm talk about her inspirations for this book, including famous scientists like Jonas Salk and Marie Curie, and less famous scientists, like her dad. She played the Goldfish Game with the students, where they competed to see whether being young or being old was better. The oldies won 9 to 8! Can't beat being about to "do whatever you want." For her finale, she and a student drew Babymouse as an architect, and she left the drawing for us!
